During my fourth year of university, I had the amazing opportunity to become a Non-certified Teacher on Call for School District 27 in Williams Lake, BC. Working as a substitute teacher has significantly enhanced my teaching and learning experience and abilities. I have gotten the opportunity to work with a variety of students across different grade levels, which has helped me quickly adapt to new classroom dynamics. I developed stronger classroom management skills and learned how to handle diverse learning needs. My favourite part of this job was not just getting to meet new students but getting time to observe experienced teachers and learn from them. By stepping into different classrooms, I have gained valuable insights on what a positive learning environment looks like and how there are various levels of learning within a classroom. Being a NTOC has given me the experience of a lifetime, which will benefit me in my future teaching career.
